How Remodeling My Bathroom Helped Me Sell My House

In the sad and depressing time of the real estate market downturn, trying to sell my house was like wading through a river of lava wearing a pair of moccasins- I was getting burned! There were three other houses in my neighborhood that were all up for sale for the same price, but they had been recently remodeled. What was I going to do to make my house stand out among the crowd? I knew that there was one room in my house that could use some updating, so I decided to get in on some Salt Lake City bathroom remodeling.

Renovation or Repair

First thing was first; I needed to decide whether to repair the bathroom I had or completely renovate it. I invited a friend of mine over to take a look at it for me to give me his opinion. He said, "Renovation", and I said, "Okay". Apparently there were too many outdated fixtures and the decor was retro- the bad kind- so repair wouldn't have done anything to increase the worth of the property.

Doing It Myself

Since I was trying to keep things within a tight budget, I decided to do the work of bathroom renovation myself. Sure, I would ask my contractor friend to help out when he could, but I was going to do most of the work myself. I knew a little bit about cabinet re-facing, fixture installation and lighting so I knew I could at least do those things. Due to the confidence in my abilities and ideas, I knew that this Salt Lake City bathroom remodeling project would be a breeze.

It wasn't- I decided to call a contractor.

It took less than a month to do the work, and I found a great contractor at Homeshow Daily. He was pre-screened and he also had some great design ideas that helped things go smoother; otherwise the renovation would have taken a year rather than just a month. I was very grateful for his services. He was like my renovation guide- my bathroom guru.

The End Result

Once the Salt Lake City bathroom remodeling project was complete, I added, "remodeled bathroom" to my house listing and the calls started coming in. People wanted a bathroom that was brand new, and it showed in the offers I received. People from all over Wasatch and Salt Lake City, Utah were calling and offering above what I had listed originally.

In the end, the Salt Lake City bathroom remodeling was exactly what my home needed to sell...and it did- quickly.

Salt Lake City bathroom remodeling is Homeshow Daily's specialty. Visit http://www.homeshowdaily.com to get bids from our pre-screened Salt Lake City bathroom remodeling contractors.

Bicyclists - Beat Or Treat Potential Overheating Symptoms With Your Own Know-How and Supplies

Not all bicyclists do well during hot weather rides, particularly on routes where little shade exists to start with, or when the rider's body wants to shut down for no apparent reason other than being slightly hot or tired. These heat-related symptoms generally occur when the body can no longer cool itself down to healthy temperatures during athletic exercise. Here are three basic ways to avoid or treat potential heat-related symptoms while riding in hot sunny weather.

1. The fast way: jump into a creek or lake, carefully!

Recently, a professional personal trainer wrote in a sports magazine that overheated bicyclists need to cool off fairly fast by immersing themselves in cool water. If necessary, this treatment could mean jumping into a nearby creek or lake if one exists. Such a move works well simply because it cools down all of the body rapidly. But, what if this water source is infested with harmful wildlife, algae, or bacteria?

Several years ago, a group of teenagers in a southern state wanted to cool off quickly by swimming in the clear blue water of an abandoned strip mining pit. One boy, anxious to be the first one in, lept into the water in his underwear. When he surfaced, a dozen water moccasins were clinging to his body by their mouths. Apparently, he had landed in an underwater mass of them. Most of the snakes were young. Still, the boy did not make it to the hospital in time to be saved.

Be cautious when entering a creek, pond, or lake, especially if it could hold dangerous wildlife. Rather than jumping into the water, use a can, carton, or water bottle to draw it, and then pour it over yourself. Otherwise, wade into the shallows, and splash the water onto your head and torso with your hands.

2. Add safety precautions to a preplanned hot-weather ride.

  • Gradually acclimate yourself to riding in hot weather ahead of time.

  • Wear common but light-colored clothing that will also wick sweat away properly.

  • Avoid the midday heat. Ride only during the morning or evening hours, or when the weather is cloudy and fairly cool.

  • Avoid riding on surfaces that become super hot during sunny hot weather.

  • Take the back-roads or trails having adequate shade and natural water spots on or near them. If possible, scout the intended route ahead of time. Look for adequate shade from underpasses, tunnels, trees, buildings, or trailheads. Also, check for water spots to cool off with if it comes to that, e.g., creeks, ponds, lagoons, fountains, marshes, drainage ditches, slews, lakes, and trailheads equipped with running water.

  • Stay close to civilization. Plan your ride to go through small towns or near convenience stores where bottled and running water are available, and where one can cool off under air-conditioning.

  • Ride with a safety-minded partner or group.

  • Carry a cell phone to contact help from your family, friends, or emergency numbers.

  • Take advantage of the sponsored rides. These rides have supplies-and-gear (SAG) rest stops every 10-20 miles. They provide shade, energy food, and cool drinking water. Volunteers also patrol these rides for health and safety reasons. They offer rides to bicyclists needing them. For a small registration fee, these rides are much safer than exposing oneself to the hot-weather elements precariously.

3. Carry these supplies.

  • Extra water. Carry extra bottles of water in a cooler bag attached to the handle bars or rear rack, or carry it in a large hydration-backpack. Portions of this supply can be poured over your head and torso when overheating appears to be taking place.

  • Fortified drinking liquids. For drinking water, use the gels or liquids fortified with electrolytes, salts, and nutrients to aid sweating and body temperature control.

  • Food. Carry and eat high-liquid fruits and vegetables in addition to the common high-energy snacks.

  • Chemical ice packs (available from health and medical supply outlets). Take along several of these cooling packs. If you begin to overheat, activate one or more of these packs by squeeze-crushing them, and then place them on top of your head under your helmet or elsewhere as needed. These packs will give about 30-minutes of touch-transfer cooling.

  • Light-weight plastic tarp or tent. If natural shade is unavailable when needed, setup your own air-ventilated shade with this cover. A 15-to-30-minute rest under this cover can increase one's heat endurance a lot. This setup works much better by pouring cool water over oneself at the same time.

  • Collapsible container. Carry a folding cup or container to draw water with.

By knowing these precautions and potential treatments ahead of time, especially by knowing the availability of nearby water sources, a bicyclist can ride safely under most hot-weather conditions.

Moccasins, From The Forest To Your Bedroom

Moccasins, as a style of shoe, are resurgent in popularity. They are a comfortable and popular form of slipper or house shoe for men and some brands even offer outdoor versions for everyday wear. While these shoes share the same name as their predecessors, they are quite different. Historically moccasins were worn by native American people and based upon where those people lived the shoes they wore were slightly different.

Moccasins are shoes that were made of deer hide and stitched together with sinew. They had soles and sides that were made from a single piece of leather. All Native Americans wore moccasins with designs that were substantially the same but with subtle differences. Native American people living in the forested northwest wore moccasins with soft shoes. These provided protection for their feet but still allowed them to feel the ground. The soft soles assisted them in moving quietly through the forest when hunting game. Out west, moccasins typically had hard soles because of the rough terrain and plants like cactus.

The word comes to us from the Algonquian language Powhatan word makasin. The Algonquian languages are a subfamily of languages spoken by Native American people who lived in North America. Sadly these languages are extremely endangered today with such a small number of native speakers which is continually shrinking. The Powhatan tribe was centered in Virginia with an estimated population of 14,000 to 21,000 people at the time of the Jamestown settlement in 1607. Currently the state of Virginia recognizes a total of eight tribes that can trace their heritage back to the Powhatan people. These tribes have a current population of registered members of 3,000 to 4,000 people.

Frontier people adopted the moccasin for footwear because they could easily be made with the resources that were available. Since encountering Native Americans for the first time in the fifteenth century Europeans learned many things, including how to make this comfortable and rugged footwear. Today moccasins are still popular and just as comfortable as they always were. Minnetonka Moccasin based in Minneapolis, Minnesota produces hundreds of different styles, from those designed as slipper to full length moccasin boots for women.

Men's Fashion

After the World War II, 1940s emerged as a dramatic shift to style and elegance especially in men's fashion. This was the most innovative and vital decade as far as men's' fashion and style is concerned. Many people and designers consider this decade as a great achievement in men's' wear.

In this article, I will briefly discuss an overview of all designs and styles that were used in that specific period. In early 1940s, strict rules and measures were adopted in clothing. Designers and manufacturers had great challenges especially in United States and United Kingdom. People prefer simple textures and clothing that is functional. They do not use ornamented and decorative dresses because of rising disturbances of war and psychological pressures. People were more concerned about social and political issues rather than ordinary ones like clothing. So, people go for functionality rather than style.

In early 1940s, fashion for men had transformed completely. Natural fibers were considered and reserved for military uniforms. Strong, durable and practical clothing was used by ordinary people. That was the time when simple clothing without vests, cuffs and pockets was first introduced to preserve natural material. However, after the disturbances of war, fashion modified once again. So, in mid of 1940s, more stylish outfits were designed by manufacturers. Double breasted shirts, long jackets and wide trousers became the part of fashion. Cedars, peach, blue and grey were the most often used colors in various outfits. Neckties were also designed in vibrant colors accordingly.

This was the first time when men accessories gained great popularity. Hats, shoes, neckties, cufflinks, belts and watches gained considerable popularity and fame. Shoes made of black leather also achieved great fame.

Although the period of 1940s was great set back and desperate but no doubt men's fashion at that specific era became more popular and excited.

Why The Intricate Native American Beadwork Is Still Popular Today

American Indian beadwork is an art that has been handed down for generations among the different Indian cultures. Their beads were used on moccasins, pipebags, belt bags, used on toy cradles, dolls, and other toys, knife sheaths, and different pieces of clothing. The beadwork varied greatly among the different tribes and individuals but each one was unique in its own way. Each tribe had different colors depending on the dyes available from different plants in the areas in which they lived.

Much of the beadwork and other Indian Pottery and artwork had a meaning behind it and represented something in their lives. Since the American Indians were on the move a lot they could not have breakables of any kind so they would decorate their utensils, blankets, or anything else they could paint, attach beads, carve or decorate in any other way.

They had a gift of imagination and handiwork second to none and there are still many beautiful pieces of artwork made years ago. Some of these can be found on the market for purchase and there are many pieces in museums around the country. To us today, the beadwork is just beautiful pieces of jewelry, etc., but to them they meant much more. it was a way of life for them. It was a way for each one to express themselves. The history of each tribe is a story in itself and it is very interesting to study them.

There is still many people doing beadwork today and many of them are decedents of the American Indians of days gone by but their spirit lives on in their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Beadwork and other works of art that the American Indians did should never die. Hopefully the offspring of the pioneers will continue on with the traditions and artwork.

Back then it was a necessity for survival but today it is just a hobby but it is at least still being utilized. Before beadwork was introduced into the Indians way of life, they used mainly paints made of dyes from different plants and flowers, shell, and porcupine quills. Quillwork was a sacred art of the Native American Plains tribes.

Clothing, utensils and other devices were decorated. It was not until the mid eighteen hundreds that designs began to change. Some of the tribes today who still do beadwork are Pueblo, Five Civilized Tribes, Shoshone, Lakota, Cheyenne, Arapahoe, and many more. Surprisingly enough there is still a lot of beadwork being produced by hand by these tribe's people. These people are proud and they want their offspring to remember their elders and their traditions from long ago. Beadwork is one way to remind the American Indians of today of who they are and where they came from. It is so thrilling that they have such beautiful art to live on through their heirs.

How to Clean Your Coach Bag

Designer handbags are great! Wonderful quality and they last forever. But when something lasts so long and you use it a lot, it does require some cleaning attention.

What to do? After doing some research, I believe you have four options-

1. Check with the store from which you bought the purse

2. Pay a professional (Be careful, not all drycleaners will work)

3. A do it yourself cleaning concoction

4. Use the Coach recommended cleaners

1. Store Service

Some stores which carry the Coach brand also offer purse cleaning as a follow up service to the customer. Nordstrom is one of these stores. Call the store from which you purchased your purse to see if this is a possibility. This follow up customer service can also be considered when making your purchase. If you are planning to keep your purse for a long time, then you may want to purchase from a place that provides this service to its customers.

2. Pay to Have Your Purse Professionally Cleaned

Professionally cleaning a purse is different from dry cleaning garments. If you are looking to your local drycleaner to do the cleaning, you need to ask if the company has experience cleaning purses. I would also suggest a reference or two from satisfied customers before you hand over your designer bag. Purse cleaning needs to be done manually so make sure the drycleaner will clean your bag in this manner.

3. A Do It Yourself Concoction

Yes, it is true you can find solutions to just about anything online. There are lots of people with lots of opinions and suggestions. This vast array of information is a great benefit to the ever-evolving Internet. You can find out all kinds of ways people have tried to clean their purses at home. For the cloth bags, using a light colored cloth, warm water, and a gentle soap was the most frequently found solution. A light colored cloth is to be stressed! Try a small test area with anything you try. Shout wipes were also used for a spot stain. The forums referenced suede cleaners found on eBay, but none was specially stated at being the best. Coach does make suede cleaner. Others washed their bags in the washing machine. The washing machine approach makes me very nervous, but I guess it works for some people.

4. Coach Recommended Cleaners

The Coach Company sells cleaners specifically for each type of its handbags. These cleaners cost $10 when purchased directly from the Coach store. In reference to the amount you spend on a handbag, a $10 cleaner to keep your handbag looking great seems like a real deal to me. Replacing your bag because of a botched do-it-yourself experiment will cost much more. On the official Coach website it gives you instructions on how to clean the different types of bags.

I hope this helps. Keep your Coach bags clean and looking great!
