Choosing the Right Products For Your Hair Type

Everyone's hair is different. If you look around, you will see hair in all sorts of colors, textures, and conditions. Others subject their tresses to a litany of abuses such as chemical straightening, frequent coloring, and daily heat styling. Although each individual situation is different, hair types generally fall into one of two categories: oily and dry. If you don't pay attention to these classifications, your hair could be missing out on exactly what it needs.

Dry hair affects more people than oiliness does. That's because it is so easy to dry your hair out. If you get your hair colored frequently, there is a good chance the chemicals have started to dry out your tresses. If you use a hair dryer, flat iron, or curling iron on a regular basis, you are probably frying your ends at least to some degree. It is easy to end up with dry hair but thankfully there are a lot of ways to deal with this.

First, you should try to minimize the damage you cause to your hair. You are probably already aware that the styling and chemicals you use do not contribute to overall hair health but perhaps you like the way your hair looks as a result and think the tradeoff is worth it. In that case, you need to give your hair extra moisture. Use a thermal protectant spray before heat styling. These sprays moisturize and protect from the high temperatures that dryers and irons use. If your locks are super fine and straight, there is a good chance you have oily hair. While people with dry hair would love to have this problem, it is still a problem nonetheless. Who has time for all that washing?

Oily hair is actually easier to treat than dry hair. The most important thing you can do for oily hair is to avoid products that contribute to the problem. That means avoiding pomades and gels that will only make your hair look slicker. You should also wash your hair once a week using a clarifying shampoo to help eliminate the buildup of products in your hair. Things like hairspray build up over time and act like a magnet drawing dirt and grime to your hair.
